Sri Lankan authorities have commenced an internal review following the discovery of procedural errors and oversights regarding the investigation of two shipping containers imported from Pakistan. These containers, currently held at the Colombo Port's CICT Terminal, are suspected of containing illicit narcotics. Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya has directed the Special Investigation Unit to examine the lapses identified within the initial inquiry process. Officials emphasized that this internal probe is distinct from the primary investigation into the alleged drug shipment and is designed to run concurrently without hindering the ongoing criminal case. The main effort to examine the contents of the seized containers remains active as the police work to address the administrative failures observed during the initial stages of the operation.
