Swiss authorities have verified that the individual recently diagnosed with Ebola in Nigeria is the spouse of a diplomat stationed at the Swiss embassy in Abuja. The patient has been receiving medical care at a private facility in the Nigerian capital for approximately seven days following the onset of symptoms. According to the Swiss Foreign Ministry, the couple recently returned from a visit to Uganda, which is suspected to be the source of the infection, despite neither individual having traveled to the Democratic Republic of Congo where the current outbreak originated. Officials are currently working to manage the situation and prevent further transmission of the virus. The infection is believed to have been contracted during their travel to Uganda roughly two weeks prior to the diagnosis.
