On October 19, two Singaporean residents appeared in court to face accusations of mistreating their domestic workers. Saloni Neeraj Samnani, aged 50, is facing six distinct charges related to the alleged abuse of two separate employees. Court documents detail incidents from June 2023, where she reportedly struck a helper with household items including a metal ladle and a broomstick, resulting in physical injuries such as bruises and a lip laceration. Furthermore, she is accused of verbal intimidation, including threats to force the consumption of pork and to cause eye irritation using chili. A second individual, 49-year-old D G Carole Ann, was also charged in connection with the alleged mistreatment of a domestic worker. These cases highlight ongoing legal scrutiny regarding the protection of migrant domestic staff within the country.
