A federal judge in Miami has dismissed a ten billion dollar defamation lawsuit filed by US President Donald Trump against The Wall Street Journal and Rupert Murdoch. The legal action stemmed from the newspaper's reporting on a 2003 letter allegedly written by Trump to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Judge Darrin Gayles ruled that the president failed to demonstrate that the publication acted with actual malice, a necessary legal threshold for public figures. The court further noted that forcing journalists to suppress stories based on a subject's denial would infringe upon First Amendment protections. While Dow Jones expressed satisfaction with the dismissal, representatives for the president stated their intention to appeal the decision. This case is part of a broader series of legal challenges initiated by Trump against various media organizations during his second term.
