A recent investigation by US-based AI firm Anthropic has uncovered a Turkish cybersecurity company's involvement in a platform used to influence Malaysian political discourse. The 154-page report details how BBS Bilişim Teknolojileri, an Istanbul-based entity, allegedly utilized Anthropic’s Claude models to manage a network of approximately 1,000 fraudulent social media accounts on X. This operation, which functioned between late 2025 and mid-2026, also incorporated a deceptive news website and the creation of fabricated intelligence dossiers. The system was marketed as a high-level, AI-powered political influence service. Following the discovery of these activities, Anthropic terminated the associated account, citing clear evidence linking the network to the Turkish firm's commercial operations. This case highlights the growing concerns regarding the misuse of generative artificial intelligence for organized political manipulation and the spread of misinformation in electoral processes.
