Authorities from the Central Investigation Bureau apprehended the 66-year-old abbot of Phutthaisawan Temple in Ayutthaya on September 10. The arrest follows accusations that the religious leader embezzled over 92 million baht from temple accounts, allegedly transferring the funds to a woman identified as his partner. Officers from the Crime Suppression Division conducted the operation at the temple premises early in the morning. The suspect, Phra Wachirayan Wi, faces multiple legal charges, including the unlawful misappropriation of property, corruption in official duties, and involvement in money laundering schemes. The investigation was initiated after law enforcement received reports regarding the suspicious financial activities linked to the abbot, leading to the current legal proceedings against him.
