The Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has announced the commencement of Phase Ib clinical trials for a new vaccine targeting the Bundibugyo Ebola virus. Developed by the University of Oxford, the ChAdOx1 BDBV vaccine candidate entered the testing stage in Uganda on October 6. This development occurs as health authorities intensify measures to combat the persistent Ebola outbreak currently affecting the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Wessam Mankoula, a representative from the Africa CDC, confirmed the progress during a recent virtual media briefing, highlighting the ongoing regional efforts to secure effective immunization tools against the virus.
