Following severe flooding in the Rasuwa district on August 26, the Nepalese government formally approached the United Nations' Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage for financial support. In a communication sent on September 1, officials argued that the natural disaster was exacerbated by global climate change. The fund's board, led by co-chairs Camila Minerva Rodríguez Tavarez and Georg Børsting, replied on September 10, confirming that they are currently evaluating the request. The board indicated that coordination efforts are in progress to determine how to provide rapid assistance while adhering to the organization's established policies and operational frameworks. This response marks a significant step in Nepal's attempt to secure international climate-related compensation for damages caused by extreme weather events. The fund is now exploring various options to deliver aid within its existing mandate to support vulnerable nations facing climate-induced crises.
