The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran has asserted that it successfully intercepted and captured an unmanned American submersible vehicle near the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz. Following the public release of images depicting the vessel, the United States Department of Defense provided a brief statement regarding the incident. A Pentagon spokesperson clarified that the underwater drone had experienced a technical malfunction more than twenty-four hours prior to the Iranian announcement. No further details regarding the recovery operation or the current status of the equipment were provided by either party involved in the maritime incident.
