Ng Lye Poh, the mother of the individuals who established the Sheng Siong supermarket chain, died on September 5 at the age of 91. Following her passing, the funeral wake saw an extraordinary display of public support, with approximately 1,000 floral wreaths delivered to the venue. Lim Hock Leng, her son and the current managing director of the company, shared a video on social media expressing his astonishment at the scale of the tributes. He described his mother, affectionately known as the Sheng Siong Ah Ma, as a national treasure and thanked the community for their condolences. The family obituary noted that she is survived by a large extended family consisting of nearly 100 members.
