During the Long March in June 1935, the Central Red Army undertook the challenging task of traversing Mount Jiajin, the first significant snow-covered peak encountered during their journey. Reaching an elevation of 4,930 meters, the mountain is characterized by harsh weather and low oxygen levels, famously described by locals as impassable for both birds and humans. Despite facing severe shortages of food and lacking adequate winter clothing, the soldiers persevered through freezing winds, snow, and hail. To survive the extreme conditions, the troops utilized wooden sticks to navigate the terrain and consumed chili water to maintain their body temperature. This arduous crossing, which commenced on June 12, remains a notable episode in the history of the Long March, highlighting the endurance of the forces under difficult environmental circumstances.
