Official data published by the Turkish Statistical Institute indicates that the country's comprehensive unemployment rate climbed to 31.2 percent in September, marking a 0.2 percentage point increase compared to the previous month. This broad metric encompasses individuals without employment, those seeking more hours, and discouraged workers who have ceased active job searches. Simultaneously, the standard unemployment rate, which tracks individuals actively looking for and available to begin work, grew by 0.5 percentage points to reach 8.4 percent. Statistics show that the total count of unemployed persons aged 15 and older increased by 198,000, bringing the national total to approximately 2.967 million people. This rise reflects ongoing challenges within the labor market regarding both active job seekers and those categorized as potential workers who remain outside the traditional workforce.
