Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte has formally requested that the Supreme Court merge two separate legal petitions concerning her immunity from suit. Through her legal representatives, Clifford Chua and Paul Lawrence Lim, the Vice President argued that both cases address identical constitutional issues. The motion, submitted on September 10, 2026, highlights that the petitions center on the interpretation of Section 2, Article XI of the 1987 Constitution, which defines the status of impeachable officials. One of the involved cases originated from a petition for declaratory relief filed in December 2024 at the San Juan City Regional Trial Court. In that initial filing, Duterte sought to establish that her immunity protections should be equivalent to those granted to the President, citing the underlying intent of the national constitution.
