During a bilateral meeting in New Delhi preceding the 18th BRICS Summit, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi gifted Russian President Vladimir Putin a Russian-language version of the Thirukkural. This ancient Tamil literary work, authored by the philosopher Thiruvalluvar, consists of 1,330 couplets addressing topics such as ethics, governance, virtue, wealth, and love. The volume was produced by the Central Institute of Classical Tamil, with the translation performed by Naira Mkrtcheyan. This gesture continues a pattern of cultural exchanges between the two leaders; previously, Prime Minister Modi has presented President Putin with items such as a traditional Sohrai painting, a Russian translation of the Bhagavad Gita, Assamese tea, and a silver horse figurine to highlight India's diverse heritage.
