South Korean Prime Minister Han Seong-sook stated on Friday that any potential transformation of the former Yongsan Garrison site into a residential area necessitates broad public consensus. The remarks were made during a parliamentary interpellation session in response to a proposal by Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker Bok Ki-wang. The legislator suggested that utilizing the central Seoul location, currently designated as Yongsan Park, could help address the capital's ongoing housing affordability challenges. In his reply, the Prime Minister indicated that the government should maintain an open stance toward discussing various proposals regarding the future use of the land, while emphasizing the importance of public agreement in the decision-making process.
